HOW IT WORKS

From "um…" to "I've got this" in four steps.

Every scene has a goal you can feel: get your coffee, get your room key, get through the interview. No hearts, no energy bars, no guilt.

  1. 1

    Learn

    Guided conversation

The character talks first. Stuck? Tap a suggested reply, see a translation, or ask the lightbulb for an idea. You always say it out loud.

Learn mode: the barista asks about a croissant and two suggested replies appear with translations.
  2. 2

    Practice

    On your own, judged after

Same scene, no hints. Nobody interrupts you mid-sentence. When it's over you get a score, the fixes, and better ways to say what you meant.

    82

    Nicely done!

Reach 85 to master this scene.

    Accuracy Range On your own
  3. 3

    Cards

    Made from your mistakes

Every line you stumbled on becomes a flash card, in the voice of the character who said it. Two minutes a day, only what you actually need.

    FROM YOUR CAFÉ SCENE

Je voudrais un café, s'il vous plaît.

    I'd like a coffee, please.

  4. 4

    Goals

    Things you can actually do

Your progress is a list of real-life can-dos, not points. Miss a day? A rest day each week is on us.

    66%

    YOUR GOAL

Get by in a Paris café

    • I can greet and order a drink
    • I can add a snack and ask the price
    • I can pay and say goodbye politely

FAQ

Good questions.

What exactly is zyapp?

A speaking-practice app. You step into short scenes (a café, a hotel desk, a job interview, an IELTS Speaking test) and talk out loud with an animated character who answers in a natural voice. Learn mode coaches you through; Practice mode lets you go solo and reviews you afterwards.

Which languages?

English, French and Spanish in the beta, with IELTS Speaking, DELF A2 and DELE A2 practice. Japanese is next. Tell us what you want in the sign-up and we'll prioritise.

When does the beta start, and on which phones?

We're inviting the first testers in small waves on iPhone (TestFlight) and Android (Play testing), starting with people whose test date is nearest.

Is my practice private?

Yes. Your practice stays private, so make mistakes freely. We never sell or share your data. Read the privacy notes.

How is this different from Duolingo, Speak or Praktika?

You practise whole real-life conversations with characters in a place, not drills or a chat window. Feedback comes after you finish, so you're never interrupted mid-sentence, and your mistakes turn into your flash cards.

Is the feedback any good?

It's honest rather than flattering: if you weren't understood, it says so and shows a better way to put it. We're tuning it with beta testers, and you can flag any feedback that seems wrong.

How much will it cost?

The beta is free. After launch there's a free plan with a guided and a practice scene every day, Pro for unlimited practice, and one-time exam packs. Prices are shown for where you are, in your own currency where we can. Founding members keep their price for life, and everyone on the beta list keeps the price they signed up with.
